Before you could start a new game, the game itself will show you an introduction showing that your parents left you to take care of the farm for two and a half year.
When you started your game, it will be in Spring season, Year 1.
Name your character. Based on the information I gathered on the internet, the developers intended to give the character the name "Jack" that's why it is only limited to 4 letters. I want to name mine "Shotie" for some secret reason xD. But anyways, maybe in other version of the game which allows more than 4 letter characters.
Before trying to get to know your house (or you can do it now, checking the controls of the TV and other stuffs), I recommend doing it on the second day and go outside first. You will meet the shipper and will take you to the square where you will meet the people of the village.
You won't be able to go out unless you have talked to the people there, now do so. Try not to follow what is on the video and get to know the town, if you are a beginner that is. Take note of the events too that is listed on the church (the paper in the first row of chairs, right side).
Make sure to familiarize yourself and try to know where the flower shop, the livestock dealer, tool shop.. and.. etc., any place that is a "shop".
After talking to all the people in the town square you can now go back to your farm by talking to the shipper. Once you are back in your farm, you will automatically go to sleep (Your game is unsaved so I recommend to play the game until the 3rd day of Spring).
